Kelly Larson directs Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety, a program to reduce road traffic fatalities and injuries in low- and middle-income countries. Since 2007, Bloomberg Philanthropies has committed $500M to support the implementation of best practice road safety interventions and strengthen national road safety legislation. An integral part of Bloomberg Philanthropies’ road safety strategy is supporting cities in identifying high-crash/high-fatality streets and intersections, then redesigning them for people, not cars; a clear need in low- and middle-income cities around the world. In this keynote address, Kelly will share how Bloomberg Philanthropies has worked with Mayors and city agencies to improve infrastructure, reduce speeds, and advocate for necessary updates in national design codes – all of which contribute to saving lives.
