A snapshot of Local Government engagement in delivering road safety

LGN

Across Australia and New Zealand, various approaches support and involve Local Governments in road safety. This workshop will examine different models, using the learnings to build an optimal model that supports Local Governments in delivering best practice road safety, contributing to state and national targets.  Despite adopting the safe system approach in 2008, its application remains inconsistent. Local Governments manage extensive road network where significant numbers of people are killed and serious injured (KSI) each year. Local Government involvement and contribution is critical to realizing the vision of zero road deaths and serious injuries. The workshop will review current models and build on them to create an optimal model for supporting Local Governments. Evolving the support to Local Governments is essential to ultimately achieve vision zero.
