Martin Matthews

Martin was Secretary for Transport in New Zealand from 2008 to 2016. In this capacity he led the Ministry of Transport which is responsible for advising the government on policy, regulatory and investment settings for all modes of transport – road, rail, aviation and maritime. Martin also chaired the National Road Safety Committee, co-ordinating all the government agencies involved with road safety. Martin is now an independent consultant and Director. Martin was internationally recognised for his leadership of thinking about the future of transport and mobility. In 2015 he was one of only three people inducted into the Hall of Fame for the Intelligent Transport System World Congress. Martin has worked with, and advised, Ohmio since 2016 when he facilitated setting up their autonomous vehicle trials in Christchurch, Sydney, and Melbourne. Ohmio is now the New Zealand developer of a world leading autonomous shuttle.
