Transport options

Christchurch has many options in terms of delegate transport. The CBD is located 20 minutes’ drive from the airport. Transport options include bus, car share, or taxi.

Within the city, most things are within a few minutes easy walking distance as the CBD is flat and compact.

International Travel

National Travel

Getting to Christchurch from anywhere in New Zealand couldn’t be easier. Take your time and enjoy the stunning coastline from Picton to Christchurch by taking the Coastal Pacific train journey. The Coastal Pacific meanders breathtakingly close to the sea, where the roaring Pacific Ocean meets the rising Kaikōura mountains. Combine this with a trip on the Interislander Ferry for the perfect way to connect between the capital city, Wellington and Christchurch. If you are coming from elsewhere in the country, try taking the Intercity bus service as it offers routes through all the major New Zealand cities plus more.

Getting around the city

Scooter and Bicycle

Christchurch now have over 60km of dedicated cycleways linking you to the central city. There are electric scooter and bicycle schemes within the city – perfect to cover more ground and explore all Christchurch has to offer. Both Lime and Neuron are offered within the city.

Public Transport

There is a fantastic bus service at the Central Bus interchange right in the heart of the CBD. An option for anyone, the bus service accepts metro cards as well as cash. Travel by bus is available to most major attractions around the city.

Taxi and Ride Share

Taxi and ride share services are available to get you where you need to go. Book a taxi from Blue Star Taxi’s or make use of the ride share options available within the city. Apps such as Ola, Uber and Zoomy can be downloaded on any smartphone for ride share.

Walking

Stroll through the incredible CBD by foot and explore all that it has to offer. Take yourself on a guided central city walk and explore the completed and current projects throughout the city.
